History
Founded in 1968 by the Kolkata-based Somany Group in partnership with the UK-based Pilkington Tiles, Somany Ceramics Limited (previously SPL Ltd), is a division of the H L Somany Group, manufactures ceramic tiles. Somany's first factory opened at Kassar, Haryana, in 1971 and started commercial production with an annual capacity of 0.52 msm and since then it has achieved and exceeded many milestones, including the establishment of a second greenfield manufacturing unit set up at Kadi, Gujrat in 1981.

In 1994, Somany’s Indian promoters bought all its equity shares. In 1995, new production lines at Kassar led to a manufacturing capacity of 6000 sqm per day. Under the name of SOMANY Global, the company started importing tiles from the best brands in Europe and the East. 2001 saw a new Somany Ceramic floor tiles manufacturing plant set up at Kadi with 6000 sqm per day. Following this in 2007, a new floor tiles manufacturing plant was set up at Kadi with 7500 sqm per day capacity. Somany Ceramics ventured into the Sanitaryware segment in 2010.

Somany Ceramics Tiles has successfully redefined the Indian interior décor and tiles industry with over 5 decades of unparalleled commitment and excellence. The reputation of the brand has been duly recognised not just in India but around the world. In 1996, the Government of India recognised the in-house R&D department and thus making it the first company in the tile industry to receive the recognition. In 2008, Somany Ceramics Ltd earned the patent for the invention of High Abrasion Resistant Glaze Composition which is known as VC Shield Hardcoat technology.

Somany has also introduced various cutting–edge technology to the Indian market. Their cutting-edge Roto colour Machine can apply glazes to ceramic tiles through a serigraphic decoration technology that utilises silicon cylinders. This integrated approach for optimising tile ornamentation allows for any type of random pattern as well as a marble impression. It has enabled Somany to create new industry norms in quality and manufacturing standards for ceramic tiles, making it a true trendsetting achievement.
